Right now in class, we have started a project called the XONR8 project. What the XONR8 project does is help previously convicted people not guilty. In other terms, prove that they were actually innocent. The XONR8 is run by the California Innocence Project or CIP. For out project, we were given actual appeals from convicted felons who claim they are innocent. Our job is to read over them and then present them to the CIP and recommend them if they should take the case or not.
My thoughts on this project so far are nervous and excited. I'm nervous because it is hard to determine in my case file, what is real and what is fake. There are so many factors my group and I can take, and the fact that we are holding the last string for this person's freedom is chilling. That said, I am also excited to be apart of this project. My group and I are hardworking, and we believe that our client was innocent of the charges. How are we going to prove it? That is what we have to figure out still. I do have the confidence that we are going to end this project knowing that we tried our hardest.
