Week Four Internship Selfie
POL Preparation
Before I went to my internship, my view of life was simple. I would graduate high school, go to college, get a job, marry, have kids, then die. Now that I have experienced my internship, it changed for me. I want to experience life to the fullest and die with no regrets. I want to find a job where I actually look forward to coming in to work. I want to leave a good example for my kids so one day they can show off my legacy to other people.
Working at the California Innocence Project, I review dozens of cases where inmates are claiming factual innocence. Most of these inmates are guilty but there is a select few who are really innocent. It then makes me wonder how these people ended up in prison in the first place. Mostly it was because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Our justice system was created to persecute the guilty and prove the innocent. If innocent people are being incarcerated in prison for a crime they didn't commit, doesn't that mean the justice system has failed? These questions arose from my internship as I was reading the inmate's cases.
Internship might influence my life in the form of a career. This internship is law based and it has teached me a good number of things I never knew about law before. Like I said in my previous posts, I currently don't know what path I want to take after high school. This internship has given me a hands on experience in the branch of law and it will definitely help me decide later on whether I want to pursue a career in law.
