Analysis:
For the week of 9/21-9/25, the main objective of this week was to prep for the SAT, begin working on the first draft of our personal statement, and finish our trading cards. For Art, we spent the majority of the week finishing our trading card picture while listening to some cool tunes. Towards the end of the week, we started working on our personal boxes. For Humanities, we spent the first half of class reviewing sample SAT questions while also working on our personal statements.
I would say the major purpose of art for this week was to help cultivate our creativity by giving us the freedom to draw anything we wanted that represented us. I found that to be very helpful in by letting me and my classmates be ourselves. For Humanities, everything we learned served a major purpose. Whether it was prepping for the Writing Portion of the SAT, or getting started on our personal statement, everything helped prepare us for what was to come later in life.
Relevance:
In my opinion, the most useful idea discussed during this week was learning SAT strategies for the writing section. For me, I am not planning to take the SAT, but instead, I am going to take the ACT. Similarly, the ACT has a reading and writing section just like the SAT. The only difference between the two is that the ACT is more straightforward in its questions and answers. The packet that was discussed this week was about SAT sentence structures and how the reader should dissect the sentence by finding specific clues. Overall, I really liked what I learned this week and I hope to apply what I learned when I am taking the ACT.
Another useful concept we cultivated this week was our creativity. During this week, I got full freedom to draw anything I wanted as long as it represented me. Throughout my life, I will most definitely have times when creativity is required for the work I am doing. Because I am doing stuff like creating my trading card and box, my creativity is steadily increasing and also my confidence.
Additional Thoughts
During this week, I got to do and learn important lessons and applications that I can use later on in life. For art, everyone got to be themselves because they were given the freedom to draw anything that represented them. I thought that was a brilliant move because it helped everyone think deeply about themselves and it also helped cultivate their creativity. I know for a fact that this freedom helped me. If I was given the same task a couple of years ago, I would have no idea on what to draw and I would most likely draw a stick figure and that would be it. Art this semester has been a valuable asset in cultivating my creativity and thinking process. Currently, I have now finished drawing my trading card and am now working on my personal box. Again, the personal box deals completely about creativity and what we do with it as a whole. We are given blank box parts and it is up to the individual to make it whatever they want. I look forward to finishing my box in the future and showing it to my parents.
